    • CROWDER, RAYMOND E., "RAY", 83, of Coalfield, died Sunday, Sept. 16,2001, at his home. Mr. Crowder was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Pawnee, Ill.He lived in Chicago for 25 years, in Cobb County, Ga., for severalyears, and in Coalfield for the past 10 years. He was retired fromthe Cobb County Hospital as chief engineer. Previously, he was asupervisor for Philco Electronics in Chicago for 25 years.Mr. Crowderwas a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and played the flute in theU.S.Army Band. His family described him as a very patriotic person.He is survived by his wife, Wilma Thornton Crowder; his son, DennisCrowder and his wife, Brenda, of Largenta, Ill.; one stepdaughter,Margaret Finley of Anniston, Ala.; four grandchildren, Denise Bennettand her husband, Rob, Kevin Crowder and his wife, Patty, Allen Crowderand his wife, Kelly, and Tony Crowder and his wife, Judy; and threestep-grandchildren, Lori Matherly, Shannon Hitchcock and her husband,Martin, and Diane Mitchell and John. Mr. Crowder is also survived byhis sister, Frances Floyd and her husband, Bud, of Naples, Fla.; andseveral great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He waspreceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alice Reynolds Crowder; hisfirst wife,Dorothy Crowder; and a brother, Billy Crowder.The funeralwill be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the chapel of SharpFuneral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Mack Smith officiating.A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20,at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. The family will receive friends from6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. [Oak Ridger]
