- COTTON, CLIFFORD, 76, of Coalfield, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, atthe Life Care Center of Morgan County. Born May 10, 1928, in ScottCounty, he was the son of Emmitt Cotton and Juanita Oakes Cotton. Mr.Cotton had lived in Coalfield since 19622. He was a member of MiddleCreek Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.He was a retired coal miner who worked 43 years in area coal mines,including West Coal, Oliver Springs Mining, and Gay Coal Company. Inaddition to his parents, Mr. Cotton was preceded in death by abrother, Claude Cotton. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, HelenCoday Cotton; his daughter, Diane Meredith and husband, Mackie, ofCoalfield; his sons, Danny Cotton and Darrell Cotton, both ofCfCoalfield; three grandchildren, Tyler Meredith, Joe Cotton and ShaneCotton; special sister, Dimple Basler and husband, Roy, of theStephens community; his brother-in-law, Jay Coday and wife, BobbieLee, of Lake City; and his sisters-in-law, Viviaan Cotton of theStephens community, Geneva Frazier of Oliver Springs, Opal Hite ofDevonia, Johnnie Cagley of Claxton, and Audrie Daugherty and husband,Litton, of Oliver Springs. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, April1, 2005, in the chapel o of Sharp Funeral Home in Olive Springs with theRev. Bruce Daugherty officiating. Burial and graveside services withmilitary honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at AndersonMemorial Gardens in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, at the funeral home. Sharp Funeral Home inOliver Springs is in charge of arrangements. [Oak Ridger]
