Subject: Re: Charles questions\
I am continuing. FYI Lynchburg, VA is in Campbell County. I thoughtthat was it but wasn't sure enough of my memory so I looked it up.
I am still wondering about this Martha McGlothen. I saw her listed onthe 1850 census (I think it was 1850) where they all lived with Wesleyas Head of Household. I wondered if she had died as a young girl andthat was why they never mentioned her. Then you said maybe she wasthe Mattie McGlothen who married the Bean person. That's a thoughtbecause Mattie is a nickname for Martha. But I never heard anybodymention another sister. I always heard of the four daughters and nomore. Surelely somebody would have said something about her if she hadbeen one of Caledonia's daughters. There's even this picture ofCaledonia and the four daughters. Surely if there had been anotherdaughter, she would have had her picture made with them. There isMattie Caroline who was Wesley's daughter. Maybe she married theBean.
I have no idea who TW Jones is. Maybe a slave? I noticed someone ona census who was black and was 16 years old.
Lena's middle name was May not Martha. Some of the things I am seeingon your e-mail I have already answered when I sent you my line.Recheck the birthdates of Kate and Willie
I never heard my dad mention that Charles was a clerk/store keeper.Actually, my dad never mentioned Charles. He only knew James A. Lebowas his grandfather and called him Granpa Lebow. Charles died severalyears before my dad was born. Caledonia was Granma Lebow.
I don't think I put in Lena's line that her third husband's last namewas Mann. She had a daughter by him named Katie. My cousin Allentalked with her. I tired to call her but by that time, there was nosuch number and I didn't have another name for her.
I know all this is so confusing to you. Since it is my history and Ihave heard it all my life, it is not so strange to me. Mollie raisedher son Charlie's three daughters, Katherine, Mildred and Margaret.Charlie married Margaret Day and she died in 1913. I guess the threegirls were very young so they went to live with their grandparents,Mollie and Jerome. Katherine married and had the one son, butKatherine had fainting spells and was put in a home because shefainted one time and felfell on the stove and burned herself real bad. Ialways wondered if the fainting spells were really epilepsy. SoSadie, Katherine's aunt, Mollie and Jerome's daughter, tookKatherine's son, Buddy, in to live her. I don't know who Sadiemarried buut I think you have her birth year wrong. It could have been1895. I don't think she was that much older than my dad. Mollie was17 when she married and had Charlie the next year when she was 18. IfSadie was born in 1885, then Mollie would have been 15. I thinkCharlie was older than Sadie. I think Sadie may have been divorced.I wish I could remember her son's name. I think I mentioned that hewas once a radio announcer in Knoxville. I remember Mother sendinghim a wedding present when he got married. Mollie and Jerome only hadtwo children - Charlie and Sadie.
Now to Willie. My mother told me my grandmother had married four orfive times. I haven't been able to find but three times. The firstwas to Ferin McHaffie. Then she married a man named Stansberry - Inever found out his first name. But he haad children who used to visitwith my Aunt Nellie. Then she married John Robert Kelly. That's whoshe was married to when she died at 63 - she was a diabetic. I calledher Mama Kelly. My mother called her Mother Kelly. My dad was namedafter his dad, Ferin Hazel. He said the boys all teased him when hewas growing up because he had a girl's name so he changed it toEdward, after Uncle Will, Aunt Kate's husband with whom he lived. Sohe always went by Herman Edward McHaffie. Raymon's name is spelledwithout the "d" on the end.
That's all for now. I've got to get ready to go to a fundraiser mydaughter is sponsoring. Oh my!!! Speaking of my daughter, I don'tthink I put her name in my list. She will be so hurt to think Iforgot about her.
Anyway. Our daughter's name is Kathryn (Named for Aunt Kate butspelled differently) Ruth (Kitzi) Aiken - 10-23-1961, married MichaelLin Craig on August 22, 1981. They have two daughters, Kathryn Allen, born June 26, 1988 and Malinda Jane born September 24, 1990.
Gotta go. Take care. Barbara
