  • Notes
    • Darrell Cotton, 52 year old husband, father, Papaw, son, brother, uncle and scoop driver was called home by our Lord on November 6, 2017. He spent his whole life in Coalfield with many friends and adventures. He was most proud of his fifteen years working in the coal mines. He spoke often of the comraderie and practical jokes that made a dangerous job not only tolerable but enjoyable.
When the mines closed he spent the next fifteen years as a furnace operator renewing old friendships and forging new ones.
He loved to laugh and joke. With his quick wit he gave as good as he got. Imagining him and his best friend Herbert engaged in a non-stop game of one upsmanship-now continued in Heaven brings a smile.
Unconditional love and joy entered his life the moment he was called Papaw. He loved to hunt and fish. He couldn?t wait to share those passions. Until then he was content to laugh, play, aggravate and enjoy watching them grow. It became his reason for living.
He will be terribly missed by his wife of nearly eleven years, Gina. He often joked that it took a yankee to tame him. They shared everything in their time together, thankfully filled with more laughter than tears.
Also left behind to try and fill the void are his mother, Helen of Coalfield. Sister, Diane (Meredith) and husband, Mackie of Coalfield, brother, Danny of Coalfield, daughter, Allison (Patterson) of Wartburg, son, Aaron (Crump) and wife Darian of Port Orange, FL, 3 cherished grandchildren, Raelin, Isaiah and Leo, nephews, Joe, Shane, and Tyler all of Coalfield, and great- niece, Lakelee.
To mention all of the aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him would be a list with no end. Know that he loved all of you, he worried about and prayed for you. He is not gone, just now, an angel that will watch over us all.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00PM. A Funeral/Graveside will take place at Western Cemetery in Coalfield, Saturday Morning at 11:00AM with Bro. Bruce Daugherty officiating
